There is a permanent centre in France that offers 10-day courses for old and new students: Dhamma Mahi in Burgundy. Occasionally, other locations also offer 10-day courses, in the South-East and South-West. Short courses are also organized for old students and children. You will find the complete list below. 1. Access the application form by clicking on "Apply*" in the left hand column.
  2. Please carefully read the Introduction to the Technique and Code of Discipline which you will be asked to follow during your course
  3. Fully and completely fill out all the sections of application form and submit it. An application is required to register for all courses.
  4. Await notification. All correspondence will be through email if you give an email address in your application. Due to the large volume of applications, it may take up to two weeks before receiving notification.
  5. If your application is accepted then we require you to confirm you will be attending in order to secure your place in the course.
  6. The registration starts around 6h in the morning on the opening day of the course. Please note that for new students we proceed with an electronic lucky draw. See an explanatory note under the heading  '10 day courses and other courses for adults'  below.

COVID-19: In accordance with the instructions established by the government, courses at the centre remain suspended. They will resume as soon as possible.

***
Regarding courses already open, participants are regularly informed about the requisites (for further details, please visit our website). Notably, for now:
- only those officially residing in France are accepted;
- those who have travelled abroad must wait 7 days before coming to the Centre;
- in case of Covid-19 symptoms or of contact with somebody supposed to have Covid-19, please cancel your participation.

In case of cancellation, applicants will be informed via email. We cannot offer a replacement or alternative-course. Please re-apply as soon as the registration opens again.
Due to actual circomstances (courses cancelled and reduced amount of places) and to high number of applications, the gap between to courses (sat), initially 4 months, is extended to 6 months and could be extended up to 12 months (i.e. one course per year) according to the circumstances. This is also the case for the wait lists which number of applications is limited.
Reminder : this restriction applies for 10 day courses, Satipatthana and long courses (not for service).
Thank you for your understanding.

Ten Day & Other Adult Courses
All ten day courses and Satipatthana courses begin on the evening of the first day and end on the early morning of the last day. 3 days courses begin on the evening of the first day and end late after noon of the last day.

Registration procedure specific to Dhamma Mahi for people who are attending a 10 day course for the first time.

- 3 months before the start of the course, registration will be open from 6:00 am, all day long, after which the course will be closed (for registration).

- An electronic random selection will then be made to allocate available places for the course and to establish a waiting list.

- Within the 7 days that follow, students who were not allocated a place on the course will be notified.

- Please note it is imperative to send only one registration form per person and per course, otherwise none of the forms will be taken into account.

*Due to the increasing number of applications, we can only take into consideration one application per person for the same period (6 months) throughout the European region. This is also the case for the wait lists which number of applications is limited.

Registration procedure for old students (people having previously done a 10 day course) and for people who are attending a non center 10 day course for the first time or a Khmer language course for the first time.

- Applications are accepted from 6 a.m. (06:00 hrs) on the day courses open for registration.

- Due to the number of application, please be kind to others and wait 6 months between courses. (This restriction apply for ten day courses and satipatthana courses only). We therefore can only take into consideration one application per person for the same period (6 months) throughout the European region. This is also the case for the wait lists which number of applications is limited.

Thank you to mention when applying if you are the object of a particular diet. Rice will be substituted for meals containing gluten; plant-based milk is available to everyone daily. Other specific dietary requests can only be provided for in response to specific medically diagnosed conditions. Please inform us of those on your application.

All courses are run solely on a donation basis. All expenses are met by donations from those who, having completed a course and experienced the benefits of Vipassana, wish to give others the same opportunity. Neither the Teacher nor the assistant teachers receive remuneration; they and those who serve the courses volunteer their time. Thus Vipassana is offered free from commercialisation.

Old students are those who have completed a 10-day Vipassana Meditation course with S.N. Goenka or his Assistant Teachers. Old students have the opportunity to provide Dhamma Service at the courses listed.

Bilingual courses are courses which are taught in two languages. All students will hear daily meditation instructions in both languages. The evening discourses will be heard separately.

Meditation courses are held at both center and non-center locations. Meditation centers are dedicated facilities where courses are held regularly throughout the year. Before meditation centers were established in this tradition, all courses were held at temporary sites, such as campgrounds, religious retreat centers, churches and the like. Today, in regions where centers have not yet been established by local students of Vipassana who live in the area, 10 Day meditation courses are held at non-center course sites.

10-day Courses are an introductory course to Vipassana Meditation where the technique is taught step-by-step each day. The courses begin after a 2 - 4 pm registration period and orientation, followed by 10 full days of meditation, and end the morning of the 11th day by 7:30 am.

Children's Courses are open for all children aged 8-12 years old who wish to learn to meditate. Their parents/guardians do not have to be meditators.

Teenagers' Anapana Courses are available for teens in different age ranges from 13-18 years old. Their parents/guardians do not have to be Vipassana meditators.

Open Days are held between meditation courses. All are welcome to attend and learn about Vipassana Meditation and the Centre.

Satipatthana Sutta Courses have the same timetable and discipline as 10-day courses. The difference is that in the taped evening discourses the Satipatthana Sutta is carefully examined. This is the principal text in which the technique of Vipassana is systematically explained. These courses are open to serious old students who have sat (not including courses served) at least three 10-day courses, have not been practising any other meditation techniques since last 10-day course, have been practising this technique of Vipassana for at least one year, and who are trying to maintain their meditation practice and the five precepts in their daily lives, at the very minimum from the time of applying to the course.

Work Periods have been set aside to work on a variety of Centre maintenance, construction, household and gardening projects. All Old Students are welcome to participate. The daily program will include three group sittings with morning and afternoon work periods. On selected evenings, there will be tapes played of special discourses and talks that S.N. Goenka has given to Old Students.

Old Student Short Courses (1-3 days) are for any student who has completed the 10-day course with S.N. Goenka and his assistant teachers. All old students are welcome to apply to attend these courses, including those where it has been some time since their last course.
