Courses for Children and Young People

Open Day

All courses are run solely on a donation basis. All expenses are met by donations from those who, having completed a course and experienced the benefits of Vipassana, wish to give others the same opportunity. Neither the Teacher nor the assistant teachers receive remuneration; they and those who serve the courses volunteer their time. Thus Vipassana is offered free from commercialisation. New students - Those who have not completed a 10-day Vipassana Meditation course with S.N. Goenka or his Assistant Teachers. If you have practised other meditation techniques or even vipassana meditation in another tradition for the purposes of your first course in this tradition you will be considered a new student. [back to top] Old students - Those who have completed a 10-day Vipassana Meditation course with S.N. Goenka or his Assistant Teachers. Old students have the opportunity to provide Dhamma Service at the courses listed above. [back to top] 10-day courses are an introductory course to Vipassana Meditation where the technique is taught step-by-step each day. The courses begin after a 2-4 pm registration period and orientation, followed by 10 full days of meditation, and end the morning of the 11th day by 7:30am. [back to course schedule] Old Student short courses (1-3 days) are for any student who has completed the 10-day course with S.N. Goenka and his assistant teachers. All old students are welcome to apply to attend these courses, including those where it has been some time since their last course. [back to course schedule] 10-Day and 3-Day self courses at a centre These courses are for students who have completed at least 3 10-day courses with S.N. Goenka or his assistant teachers, are trying to maintain daily practice and are trying to keep all precepts to the best of their ability. They should not have practised other meditation techniques since their last course. Admission is at the discretion of an Assistant Teacher. Please note: To serve on any self course you must have previously served a 10 day course. [back to course schedule] General Service Periods Are reserved for the maintenance of Dhamma Sukhakari and are open for old students to attend. All kinds of projects are undertaken, such as gardening, office work, building maintenance, cleaning, cooking and painting. Whatever your particular skills or abilities, your help during these work periods is always welcome. You can choose to come for the whole time or only part of it. The essential life of the centre continues throughout the work period, with three daily meditation group sittings. [back to course schedule]
