Schedule of Courses - 2006

All of the courses below will be conducted by assistant teachers of S. N. Goenka using audio and video tapes of Mr. Goenka's instructions and discourses. All ten day courses begin the evening of the arrival day, with check-in time between 3:00 and 5:00 p.m., and end early morning of the departure day, approximately 7:30 a.m. To apply for any 10-day course please read the Code of Discipline and then complete the on-line application.

Note: There are courses scheduled in other regions (Northern and Southern) of California apart from the courses conducted regularly at the California Vipassana Center.

 

Application Process

  • Prior to applying for a 10-day course we require applicants to read the Code of Discipline.
  • Fully complete the application form.
  • Await notification of application status. i.e.; registered, waitlisted or pending (require additional information).
  • Once registered we require a CONFIRMATION from applicants to ensure their place on the course.
  • Voluntary rideshare is available for students enrolled on courses. The contact and web link information is available on the course acceptance letter.

Notes

Waitlisted courses are courses where the number of students registered equals or exceeds the amount of accommodation space which is available. However, during the warmer months we are able to register additional applicants if they are able to bring a tent as their accommodation. Also, there are usually a number of cancellation allowing waitlisted applicants the opportunity to attend.

Ten-day courses are introductory courses to Vipassana Meditation where the technique is taught step-by-step each day. The courses begin after a 3-5 pm registration period and orientation, followed by 10 full days of meditation, and end the morning of the 11th day by 7:30am.  See the Code of Discipline for more details.  [Back to Schedule]

Bilingual courses are courses which are taught in two languages. All students will hear daily meditation instructions in both languages. The evening discourses will be heard separately. [Back to Schedule]

3-day old student’s courses are open to all students who have taken at least one 10-day course.  [Back to Schedule]

Satipatthana Sutta courses have the same timetable and discipline as 10-day courses. The evening discourses examine the Satipatthana Sutta. In this text, the Buddha systematically explained the technique of Vipassana. These courses are open to serious old students who have completed at least three 10-day courses, have not been practicing any other meditation techniques since their last 10-day course, have been practicing this technique of Vipassana for at least one year, and who are trying to maintain the Five Precepts. 20-day courses are open only to serious old students committed to this technique who have completed a minimum of five 10-day courses and one Satipatthana Sutta course, have been practicing regularly for at least 2 years, and have been keeping the Five Precepts for one year. Special forms necessary for this course are available at all centers. [Back to Schedule]

Children's courses are for children from ages 8 – 12. [Back to Schedule]

Old Student Program integrates Dhamma service and meditation, interviews with assistant teachers, and time with fellow meditators. The program includes special discourses, a 1-day old students' course, and work on projects that cannot be done during courses. Students who have completed at least one 10-day course in this tradition are welcome to apply for any length of time during the period. Dhamma Service Application Forms are available at all centers and on the old student web page. [Back to Schedule]

Work Period period integrates Dhamma service and meditation, and time with fellow meditators. The program includes special discourses, and work on projects that cannot be done during courses. Trust Retreat The annual Trust Retreat weekend brings together the Trust members who administer the California Vipassana Center to plan and work out the coming year’s priorities.
